consider allowing me to post it on-line? Church and cemetery history
was taken from the History of Northampton County Pennsylvania and The
Grand Valley of the Lehigh, William J. Heller, The American Historical
Society, 1920. Churches are listed by township or borough in the order
in which they were established. Modern church names are used.

ALLEN TOWNSHIP (Settled 1728, Erected 1748) Weaversville,
then known as the Craig Settlement, was the first permanent settlement
in Northampton County.

BETHLEHEM, CITY OF (Founded 1741 by Moravians, an early
Protestant Church. Borough 1845, City 1917)
- Central Moravian Church
(1742) is the first Moravian congregation of several
organized in Northampton County. Burial records of God's Acre
include vital and biographical information and are available
through the Moravian Historical Society 214 E. Center St.,
Nazareth, PA 18064 (610) 759-5070.
Volunteers will do look-ups for this cemetery. Other records
before c. 1860 are held by the Moravian Archives, Bethlehem (610)
866-3255.
- St. Thomas UCC, (1848) Macada and Altonah Roads, Bethlehem,
PA 18018 (610) 868-9167. The Altonah Cemetery across from the
church graveyard is operated by a private organization.
- Nisky Hill Cemetery (1864) has Moravian burials, but became a
non-denominational cemetery. You many reach them at (610)

- Salem Lutheran Church, 537 High St., Bethlehem, PA 18018
(610) 866-8019, and Christ UCC, 75 E. Market St., bought a
central section of Nisky Hill Cemetery (see above) in 1850. This
section is known as the Union Cemetery.

Bethlehem
- St. Michael's Cemetery, 1000 East 4th St, Bethlehem,
Pa. A Catholic cemetery founded in 1867.
- Holy Ghost Cemetery, 924 Sioux St. Bethlehem, Pa.
Catholic Cemetery founded about 1900. I have transcribed
nearly all of the tombstones from this cemetery and posted

- St. Joseph's Chapel, 1224 East 4th St., Bethlehem, Pa.
Originally an Episcopal church (1884), bought by St.
Nicholas Greek Orthodox church a few years later. Members
of both congregations are buried in back of the chapel.
- Ss. Cyril & Methodius Slovak cemetery, Williams St.
Bethlehem, Pa. abt 1906
- Holy Saviour Cemetery, Linden St., Bethlehem.

Fairview Cemetery of Bethlehem located at
1501 North New St., Bethlehem, PA 18018.
6.5 acres of it, and along with it came the records, dating back
to the turn of the century. I can do all kind of lookups.

BUSHKILL TOWNSHIP (Settled c.1750, Erected 1813 from Plainfield
Twp.) Known as The Plains, Moravians operated the Rose Tavern
1752-1772 and the mill at Friedensthal from 1750-1771. In 1770, they
erected a place of worship in the south end of the township, which
they used until 1793.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP (Settled c.1760, Erected 1798) Known as the
Manor of Fermor, the Drylands and the Barrens. Now mainly Lehigh
Valley International Airport.
There
are Two Cemeteries located in Schoenersville, Hanover Township, Lehigh
County, PA. They are next to each other with a common grass strip
border. The location for both is on Grove Road, Allentown, PA
18109. Schoenersville is in Hanover Township, Lehigh County. It is
located at the intersection of Route 987 (Airport Road) and
Schoenersville Road.

The First is Schoenersville
Cemetery Association, Inc. This is on the eastern side of the
grass strip from the small shed to the Eastern border at the
large shed. This has only a few old tombstones and many newer
ones. It is the larger of the two cemeteries. The Schoenersville
Cemetery was organized on May 7, 1856, and was incorporated as a
non-profit organization on March 4, 1918. Thru the years the
association purchased various tracts of land, which now amount to
10.821 acres. The official address is 2355 Grove Road,
Allentown, PA, 18108.

The Second is Christ Union
Cemetery, which adjoins the Schoenersville Cemetery, and is
located on the Western side of the grass strip that divides the
two cemeteries, at Grove Road and Airport Road. The Christ Union
Cemetery is affiliated with two local churches while the
Schoenersville Cemetery is not affiliated with a church. The
official address is Airport Road, Allentown, PA, 18108. The two

Saucon Twp. is in Lehigh Co., PA.

Lower Saucon UCC, 1734 originally located on Easton Rd. (see
church below). Served by the Rev. John Henry GOETSCHE 1730-1739.

- Christ Lutheran Church of Lower Saucon, 1804 Easton Rd.,
Hellertown (610) 838-7370. The cemetery, adjacent to the church,
is actually located within Bethlehem city limits. Burials include
the church above.

New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1834 (AKA Apple's
Church) 3233 Apples Church Rd., Bethlehem (near Leithsville),

St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic cemetery. The
cemetery is located on Easton Road about 2 miles from
Hellertown. I am not sure if it is actually in Lower
Saucon or Bethlehem. I

- Josaphat's Catholic Cemetery on
Easton Road in Lower Saucon (very close to Hellertown
and S. Bethlehem). I have omitted a handful of
inscriptions that are in a foreign language (Ukrainian
I would think). I can not read the language and the
letters are in a foreign format that I can not type. In
all there are approx. 400 names. If you are using
dial-up access, it may be slow to load, it is a big

PALMER TOWNSHIP (Settled c.1740, Erected 1857)
Pen Argyl
2 cemeteries in Pen Argyl Pa, the one is named Fairview
Cemetery the directions to this one are as follows: Take
Route 512 into Pen Argyl, at the stop light at Pen Argyl
Pizza (right past Turkey Hill) you are going to make a right
hand turn, follow that road and the cemetery is on your
right hand side. It is the same cemetery that Jayne
Mansfield is buried in.
The 2nd cemetery is named St. Elizabeth the directions to
this one are as follows: Take route 512 into Pen Argyl, at
the stop light (Pen Argyl Pizza & Kim Cesare) go straight.
Go up past the pool (on right) right when you come to the
gas station on your left you are going to bare right the
cemetery is down on your left.
